Earth Hour is a fabulous opportunity for you and your family to do something about climate change. On one night, in one hour, more will be done, more will be demonstrated, and more will be learned than any other ‘Green’ initiative. Participate in Earth Hour on Saturday 31 March 2012 and you can help make a difference.
Earth Hour is a global WWF climate change initiative.
Individuals, businesses, governments and communities will turn out their lights for one hour on Saturday March 27, 2010 at 8:30 PM to show their support for action on climate change.
The event began in the City of Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million people switched off their lights.
In 2008, more than 50 million people around the globe participated. In Australian capital cities alone, 58% of adults took part in the lights off campaign.
In 2009, Earth Hour reached out to an estimated 1 billion people in 1,000 cities around the world.
This year, an estimated 1.5 billion people in over 100 countries worldwide will be participating in Earth Hour.
What you can do:
Turn your computer off at the wall when you finish work for the day and turn your monitor off during your breaks.
Turn off any unnecessary lighting, especially when you leave a room
Use energy efficient light globes to reduce energy consumption
Create a special occasion (candle light dinner!) and hold an event to socialise and share Earth Hour with each other.
Talk to children and ask them for ideas about what they could do to help make it fun.
Talk to your office staff about earth hour and encourage them to participate with their families.
